Dj Raj, at only 24 years old, has accomplished many goals in life. The one goal that continues to grow is his dream of Music.
EARLY YEARS:
When Raj was young he was into art/music and looked up to his older brother Shawn. His brother was the first person to bring hip-hop into Raj´s life. Raj grew, and his love for music did too! In 1998 Shawn opened a small teen club in Evansville, IN. He hired a local DJ to spin at the club, but could not afford his services every week. That´s when Shawn, asked his younger brother Raj if he wouldn´t mind playing CD´s at the club on the weekends. "It was crazy, All I had was a 5 disc changer, and a mixer and a halfway decent sound system!" Raj remembers. "I remember when my brother got a tape player so that there wouldn´t be silence inbetween switching songs! I´d pop in the best stuff at the time like some Cash Money Records stuff, so It´d have like 2 cuts that were hot. That way I could play some music relatively quick without stoppin the music to swith cd´s." During one of the last weekends that the club would be open the real DJ showed up, set up his turntables, and did his thing. That´s when Raj fell in love with DJ´ing. "I had already loved playing music to folks but I didn´t consider myself a DJ! I mean, I had that CD Changer, a Book Full of the newest CD´s, but that was all." That day he met local dj, DJ BOOM BOOM. "He showed me that Vinyl wasn´t just old shit my dad had layin around the crib." Dj Boom Boom Showed Raj just a sample of what could be done with turntables, and from that point on, Raj knew what he wanted to do. "I saved up money, my brother Shawn tossed me $200, and I bought my first turntable kit that November."
His Brother´s club had shut down by the time he got his turntables. "They were Gemini XL 500´s, not good stuff but hey they were direct drive!" Raj recalls. Raj was now an Official Bedroom DJ. He called himself DJ Raj, he would practice emulating some of the things he heard in popular records, and movies, but without a teacher there´s only so much he could learn. Then Raj met DJ Jones Capone. "Capone came into my dayjob, he was lookin for old vinyl upstairs, I was like ´Hey why you lookin for vinyl?´ He said he was a DJ and was trying to get some things moving. I told him I had tables but wasn´t experienced." From that point it was history in the making. Through working with Capone on DJ´ing partys. Raj, also met Dj Flexxx. Another Local DJ and he had the hook up on some dope vinyl. "I gotta give props to Capone and Flexxx, because they showed me the ropes." More and more gigs came and as Raj got better the gigs got bigger. Raj met some people who were into music over those first years of Dj´in and like a sponge, he began to soak up knowledge of the recording game. "I already loved doing my mix CD´s but hey, I wanted people to freestyle on em!, so when I´d go to someone´s studio or go to a performance, I knew I wanted more than just Dj´in." says Raj.
OTH RECORDS:
Raj began observing, and started to build up the first incarnation of OTH Records. "I started getting tired of the local club scene because in Eville, people can be funny with the money." He started working with artists on a less serious level, jumping at the chance to record anybody´s freestyle, or vocals for songs. During these days of building the studio a lot of artists came and went, Raj continued Dj´ing and building the studio up over the years. "Eventually I met up with the crew you guys have all come to know and love."
CURRENT STATUS:
Dj Raj, is currenty working on upcoming projects from himself, LB, and, Lil Ace, and is also doing work for Chocolate Thai, one of the dopest female MC´s in NY.

When DJ RAJ, made his switch to Kiss FM, he still wanted to continue doing interviews and breaking artists in the same way he was on his own show the New Standard. That´s when he came up with the New Standard Afterdark Podcast. DJ RAJ interviews some of the hottest up and coming talent in the music/entertainment industries, as well as interviewing established ICONS in the hip hop community.
